In Memoriam: Pope Francis, Our Patron and Shepherd

Francis is the third of the three modern popes to shape catholic social teaching.

Dear Friends,

With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, who entered eternal rest today, Easter Monday, April 21, 2025.

CAPP was blessed with a unique and cherished relationship with the Holy Father, who addressed us multiple times with warmth, urgency, and unwavering hope. His words, including those delivered on May 26, 2018, urged us to “form the consciences of leaders in the political, social and economic sectors” and persevere in building a global culture of justice. His vision for a world transformed by the Gospel’s light will continue to inspire our mission.

We join the universal Church in entrusting him to the mercy of the Risen Lord, giving thanks for his life as a true disciple of Jesus, whose legacy of love, humility, and service will forever guide our work.

In a beautiful sign of God’s providence, Pope Francis lived to see Easter, the holiest day of the Christian year. How fitting that he should pass into eternity in the light of that great hope: He is Risen. In that same light, we take comfort and hope: Christ is Risen, and so shall we be.

Let us give thanks for the life and witness of Pope Francis—especially his joy and call to mercy—as together we pray for the repose of his soul:

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.
