The Catholic Church emphasizes women\u2019s dignity, equality, and unique vocation.<\/span><\/p>\n She sees a woman\u2019s role as multifaceted and indispensable: equal in dignity to men, gifted with a \u201cfeminine genius\u201d for nurturing life, and called to serve as mothers (physically or spiritually), family builders, and transformers of society. <\/span><\/p>\n Modeled on Mary (the “perfection of what is characteristic of woman” (Pope St. John Paul II, 5)<\/a>) women reflect God\u2019s love and mercy in a unique way — which is always rooted in the complementarity of the sexes.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The role of women is rooted in human dignity and of irreplaceable importance to society.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Church teaches that women and men are equal in dignity \u2013 both are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Discrimination based on sex is rejected: “The woman cannot become the ‘object’ of ‘domination’ and male ‘possession’.” (Pope St. John Paul II, 10)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n This was affirmed by Vatican II: \u201call men [humans] possess a rational soul and are created in God’s likeness, since they have the same nature and origin, have been redeemed by Christ and enjoy the same divine calling and destiny, the basic equality of all must receive increasingly greater recognition.\u201d (Gaudium et Spes, 29)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n Indeed, “Dignity is a priceless good, an innate quality<\/strong>, which no human law can give or take away” (Pope Francis)<\/a> and “I always speak of the dignity of women”. (Pope Francis)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n This is not a limitation but a reflection of God\u2019s design for humanity. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201c[In] order to know oneself well and develop harmoniously, a human being needs the reciprocity of man and woman. When that is lacking, one can see the consequences.\u201d (Pope Francis)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n This genius refers to a woman\u2019s unique capacity to nurture, love, and humanize society and is tied to her physical and spiritual potential for motherhood which \u201cinvolves a special communion with the mystery of life\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis unique contact with the new human being developing within her gives rise to an attitude\u2026not only towards her own child, but every human being\u201d. (Pope St. John Paul II, 18)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n Even women who do not bear children biologically<\/strong> experience this through spiritual motherhood<\/strong>\u2014caring for others with tenderness and generosity — a role that extends beyond the family into society: \u201cThe moral and spiritual strength of a woman is joined to her awareness that God entrusts the human being to her in a special way<\/em>.\u201d (Mulieris Dignitatem, 30)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n Thus, she \u201cbecomes an irreplaceable support and source of spiritual strength for other people, who perceive the great energies of her spirit\u201d and \u201care owed much by their families, and sometimes by whole nations.\u201d (Pope St. John Paul II, 30)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n Women\u2019s influence is spread across all spheres of life!<\/span><\/p>\n Pope Francis identifies that the Church consists of \u201cthree principles<\/strong>, two theological and one administrative.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The \u201cPetrine principle\u201d is ordained ministry. \u201cAnd why can a woman not enter ordained ministry? It is because the Petrine principle has no place for that.\u201d (\u201cThe reservation of the priesthood to males, as a sign of Christ the Spouse who gives himself in the Eucharist, is not a question open to discussion\u201d). (Pope Francis, 104)<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n However, \u201cthe church cannot function only with [the Petrine principle]\u201d and \u201cthat the woman does not enter into the ministerial life is not a deprivation. The others flow from it.
