To speak the truth in love about homosexuality is not easy. However, the task is made easier by Church teaching which is clear on homosexual behavior. Read more here<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\nStill, can I make a difference? Does what I do matter?<\/strong> Well, as it turns out \u2013 yes. Speak the truth in love. That is the call to action for Catholics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Be Holy<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
First realize and internalize \u201cthe\u00a0supreme importance<\/strong>\u00a0of spiritual and moral values\u201d (Mater et Magistra, 210)<\/a>. Then \u201c[b]ring also your professional activity into conformity with the Church\u2019s social\u00a0teaching.\u201d (Mater et Magistra, 241)<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\nThis is critical as a \u201cChristian\u2019s outlook cannot be limited to the horizon of life in this world<\/strong>. He knows that during the present life another one is being prepared, one of such importance that it is in its light that judgments must be made.\u201d (Declaration on Procured Abortion, 25)<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\nMan demands \u201ca moral and religious order<\/strong>; and it is this order\u2026which has the greatest validity in the solution of problems relating to his life as an individual and as a member of society\u201d. (Mater et Magistra, 208)<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\nSo, our \u201cgreat task is\u2026recapturing the ultimate meaning of life<\/strong> and its fundamental values. Only an awareness of the primacy of these values enables man\u2026to bring about the true advancement of the human person in his or her whole truth\u2026freedom and dignity.\u201d (Familiaris Consortio, 8)<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\nWe must always recall that \u201cthe Church raises men up, gives them a home and a hope<\/strong>, a home that is hope \u2013 the path to eternal life”.\u00a0(Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI), \u201cIntroduction to Christianity<\/em>\u201d, San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 2004, p. 344.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\u201cIn the clarity of this truth<\/strong>, you exemplified the real charity of Christ<\/strong>; you did not betray those people who, because of homosexuality, are confronted with difficult moral problems, as would have happened if, in the name of understanding and compassion, or for any other reason, you had held out false hope to any brother or sister.\u201d (Pope St. John Paul, 6)<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\nSpeak Out<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

To truly speak the truth in love, it “is up to us\u2026to give voice to God and to show the face of his mercy<\/strong>\u2026always have the blanket of mercy at hand.\u201d (Pope Francis)<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n\u201cCatholics\u2026should show themselves animated by a spirit of understanding<\/strong> and unselfishness, ready to cooperate loyally\u201d. (Mater et Magistra, 239)<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n\u201cAlthough she constantly holds up the call to perfection and asks for a fuller response to God, \u2018the Church must accompany<\/strong> with attention and care the weakest of her children<\/strong>, who show signs of a wounded and troubled love, by restoring in them hope and confidence’\u201d. Catholic social teaching is built on three foundational principles –\u00a0<\/strong>Human Dignity<\/strong>,\u00a0Solidarity\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Subsidiarity.\u00a0<\/strong>Human Dignity, embodied in a correct understanding of the human person, is the greatest. The others flow from it. The others flow from it.
